Kids Posing With My Wife at Jimbaran Beach, Bali

On our trip to Bali, at Jimbaran Beach, we met kids from neighbouring Australia playing around in the beach; they happily posed with my wife. Australians like Bali as their playground yard.

PLASTIC, CAN WE LIVE WITHOUT IT? (part 3 of 3)

(Part 3 of 3)

Burning is not a good solution to plastic waste disposal, because it will produce dioxin, a toxic substance, hazardous to human health. Reuse and recycling is considered the ideal solution for plastic waste. However, not all plastics can be recycled (non recyclable plastic) and some are dangerous if recycled (dangerously recycled plastic). Styrofoam which is used a lot for food container and egg carton belongs to the kind of less potential to be recycled. It is not easy for ordinary people to differentiate between one type from the others. At the same time, segregation of waste is not yet a common habit in developing country (Indonesia). At the current level of people understanding on which is which of plastics, added with low awareness of proper waste segregation and disposal, it will be quite some time before the people understand the whole issues.

Responsibility of All.
Having realized the potential hazard of plastic waste pollution, household plastic waste in particular, it is the responsibility of all of us to arouse society awareness of the hazard of plastic. All concerned parties have to participate in emitting the information to people that wherever possible reduces the use of non recyclable household plastic or replace them with organic materials that decay more easily. People must be educated to segregate waste and to dispose them properly. Producers of plastic are to encourage the recycling programs of plastic goods they produced at a maximum effort and to avoid production of non recyclable plastics. Back to Nature is the keyword to be widespread. Active role of educators, teachers of common and religious boarding schools, religious leaders, public figures, non-governmental organizations on environment is required to pass on this important information. Prevent environment destruction due to careless disposal of plastic wastes that will make our grandchildren suffer.

The government has to be active to campaign Back to Nature programs and together with people representatives to prepare laws required to limit the making of certain types of plastic. Law enforcement officers have to take strict action against those who break the environment regulation. Import of used electronic equipment must be banned. They contain plastics; they are waste in the origin country. We have to use plastics proportionally. For sure, we cannot live without plastic, but we must be able to control its use and disposal. That way, and through that only way, we can salvage our beloved planet of earth and our environment from destruction by plastics.
